In 'Killing Cancer with TILs,' Chris White shares his compelling journey of battling a rare and aggressive cancer in his mid-30s. From early symptoms to diagnosis and various treatments with severe side effects, Chris's story culminates in his participation in an experimental TIL therapy clinical trial that saved his life. Alongside medical insights, he reflects on the personal struggles, work-life balance, family support, and mental challenges he faced.
As a cancer researcher familiar with treatments and trials, I found this book enlightening for understanding the patient's perspective. Having met Chris recently, his passion and personality shine through in his storytelling.
I highly recommend this book—it's a must-read for anyone interested in the personal impacts of cancer
We were honored to interview the author last year. Our weekly show helps rare and chronically ill guests share their health care stories. I was so glad to see he got his memoir published and ordered it immediately! What an amazing book that shows the power and perseverance of a young man with a cancer diagnosis. When many people might have given up hope, Chris kept fighting for his life. I hope and pray he can stay healthy now that he successfully kicked cancer’s butt! (Oops! Did I give away the ending?) I highly recommend this book.
This book was inspirational, interesting, and so enjoyable to read. I read it in a short amount of time because I didn't want to put it down. You feel like you are going through the journey with Chris. He writes very clearly and tells the story exactly how it was.
This book brings to light the many battles cancer patients face, it's so raw and relatable in so many ways. So powerful and uplifting and honest. Thank you for writing this book and sharing your story of hope!!!
I just finished reading the book by Chris White and his fight with Mucosal Melanoma, and how TIL therapy eventually killed the cancer. It touched me deeply, and I’m absolutely baffled over how strong you have to be to manage the treatments, hospital visits, and fight with the insurance companies! I’m a scientist on the CMC side of cell therapies, with a passion to finding the best way for manufacturing and analytical testing. But I’m also a nurse from my life prior to becoming a scientist. My heart is beating for the patients, and every story from patients treated with cell and gene therapies touches my soul. Thank you from my heart to all of you! Thank you for taking the step to help us make the best product possible, to beat cancer!!! Thank you Chris White for sharing your story! This is what drives me to continue working hard. 🩷 This is the link if you want to get Chris’ book:
. One of the most inspiring moments this year was at the January Blood Centers of America meeting, when I heard Chris White speak about his incredible journey to fight cancer and ultimately participate in a clinical trial using his own Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes (TILs). It cured his cancer. Today, the therapy he was able to access is approved by the FDA in the US.
Chris' story is depicted in his incredible new book “Killing Cancer with TILs”
I’m honored to lead South Texas Blood & Tissue, a subsidiary of BioBridge Global, where our teams helps recruit, and screen donors who give immune cells from special blood donations instrumental in harnessing the patient’s own TILs during processing. This is hashtag#PrecisionMedicine and many new TIL therapies and other Advanced Therapies using patient and/or donor cells are on the horizon.
As medicine evolves, we continue to build on our decades long heritage of connecting donors gifts to these patients in need because human cells and tissues have the power to save and enhance lives. Within are the elements that can support patients’ care and cure.
